Clarence Klassen of KlassENgineering is a well-respected drives expert specializing in winders. His background includes a 60/40 split between drive system design and drive commissioning. Much of the drive experience is with winders and machines for paper and plastic films. His background in winder drives includes 10 years with GE Canada Drive Systems as Sr. Requisition Engineer, 10 years with Opcode Systems (approved Rockwell Drives/Control Integrator) and 10 years of independent consulting in the industry. He has designed, upgraded and commissioned numerous drives for all the major paper machine builders for Paper Machines, Winders, Rereelers, Supercalenders and Off-Machine Coaters. In the plastics industry he has designed drives for orienters, turret winders, cast and bubble extruders. Now as an independent consultant, he continues to troubleshoot problems in the paper, film, membrane and cable industries. He has repeatedly visited nearly 30 large paper mills and 20 film plants during his 29-year career. Recently, he has performed winder guarding and interlocking safety audits as required in some jurisdictions.
